MBABANE – The Afternoon Escape takes Eswatini’s voice to a wider African audience through a landmark collaboration with South Africa’s leading commercial radio station, Kaya 959.
TEA is a youth driven, high energy, lifestyle and entertainment radio programme, that blends local music, trending conversations, humour and live audience interactions, while giving a platform to Eswatini’s emerging talent.
The youth-driven programme, which airs on EBIS 2, has officially joined Kaya 959’s Global Swap segment, a cross-border radio exchange platform designed to connect African broadcasters through live conversations that celebrate culture, entertainment and everyday life across the continent. The move marks a significant milestone for Eswatini’s media industry, as local content continues to gain recognition beyond the country’s borders.
Hosted by the energetic duo Nomalungelo Dladla and Sibongiseni ‘Cybos’ Lukhele, The Afternoon Escape has steadily built a loyal following for its lively blend of local music, humour, youth lifestyle discussions and audience interaction. Since its launch, the programme has positioned itself as a fresh and authentic platform that reflects the voices and aspirations of young emaSwati.
Through the new partnership, the show will feature in short live crossovers with Kaya 959’s Drive 959, one of South Africa’s most listened-to drive-time programmes.
According to the information which was shared by the hosts of the TEA programme, the collaboration forms part of a global swap, a monthly feature Khaya 959’s afternoon drive show hosted by SA’s comedian, Skhumba Hlophe, seasoned broadcaster, Glen Lewis and media personality Kgomotso Meso, which is aired weekly from 3pm to 6pm on the radio station. The exchange will give presenters an opportunity to showcase Eswatini’s unique identity while engaging South African audiences on topics ranging from tourism and urban culture to emerging music trends and entertainment stories.
For Eswatini, the collaboration represents more than just airtime on a larger platform.
