MBABANE – The atmosphere at a capacity Somhlolo National Stadium was electric this past Sunday, as the air filled with the deafening roar of the Shiselweni faithful.

At the centre of the storm stood Mandla Qhogi, the former Orlando Pirates stalwart, watching with a calm intensity as his Nsingizini Hotspurs side battled for the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup.

When the final whistle blew, confirming a hard-fought extra-time 1-0 victory over Green Mamba before Their Majesties, it marked more than just a win; it solidified a dynasty. For Qhogi, it was a case of history repeating itself with surgical precision. Only eight months prior, on September 7, 2025, he had orchestrated an identical 1-0 triumph against the very same opponents to lift the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup.

Since arriving in Eswatini in May 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) A Licence holder has transformed Hotspurs into the country’s most formidable force. His impact is backed by staggering figures; alongside the two major trophies, he led the side to the league first-round title, earning the club E120 000 and bringing his total prize-money haul for Nsingizini to a remarkable E2.2 million.

Qhogi’s success is built on the foundations of an 18-year tenure at the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, where he honed his craft by nurturing elite talents like Lyle Foster, Zakhele Lepasa, and Relebohile Mofokeng.  He has brought that professional pedigree to Eswatini following stints with Sekhukhune United and Milford FC. The seasoned gaffer has implemented a rigid 4-3-3 defending formation that prioritises player discipline and technical excellence.

The ‘Qhogi effect’ was first felt on the continental stage, where Nsingizini earned widespread acclaim for their 2025 run, famously dispatching Zimbabwe’s Simba Bhora FC on penalties before eventually succumbing to Tanzania’s Simba SC. However, it is on home soil where his dominance is absolute.

As the Hotspurs celebrated their latest triumph in the Shiselweni sun, it was clear that the man who once guided the Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge side has found a new home for his winning formula.
