When most people see a pair of dusty black suede shoes, they sigh and move on. But for Bandiswa Vilane, it sparked a business idea that would polish more than just shoes, it would restore confidence and unlock opportunity.
What began as a personal fix has evolved into a purposeful venture.
When Vilane realised how quickly black suede shoes could lose their charm, she saw an opportunity hiding in plain sight.
Vilane used the opportunity to bring in her product called Shoe Dust, which is more than just a cleaning solution, but it is a practical innovation tailored for learners and professionals who rely on suede shoes almost every day.
“Shoe Dust is a unique product designed specifically for black suede shoes,” explained Vilane.
From a common problem to a growing business: What began as a personal fix to a common problem has evolved into a growing business. Vilane noticed the confidence that faded along with the shine of suede shoes, especially among learners because they think that they are not easy to maintain.
Luckily, she came through with a solution by introducing the easy to use product, which does not only restore their appearance, but also the pride of those who still wear them.
Vilane’s goal is to work on growing their reach by expanding into more schools, retails spaces and reseller networks throughout Eswatini and beyond.
Their plan includes offering bundle deals and building strong partnerships with educational institutions.
At the heart of their mission is a simple message. ‘Walk in power. Fall in love with the shoe again.’
Vilane has her business in heart to a point where she also gave other people a chance to make extra money through selling in retail and stock for individuals who would like to start their own business by reselling the product.
Birth of Shoe Dust
Shoe Dust began as a humble homegrown idea, born from the need to help learners and professionals who still wear suede shoes to keep them looking clean and polished.
“I often noticed that learners lost confidence when their shoes looked dusty or worn, so I developed a quick, cost-effective solution.” explained Vilane.
The core services of Shoe Dust are to: remove dust and scuffs from black suede shoes, restore the rich dark finish of the shoe, to offer an easy to use durable alternative to traditional shoe polish and to also help school learners and professionals keep their shoes looking clean and sharp with minimal effort. Shoe Dust started as a small idea, just a solution to a simple problem. Through passion, consistency and a desire to serve, it has grown into something meaningful.
“I didn’t always see this exact version of success, but I believed in becoming someone who could build it—and I’m still becoming,” Vilane said.
“Visual vibes and brand aesthetics- from the colour of the content everything is clean, intentional and infused with confidence because the vibe people see influences how they feel,” she asserts.
Positivity and customer service: Starting and running a business is one of the hardest things to do, but with a positive mind it is doable.
“I chose to make my business my utmost priority,” said the boss lady.
She further explained that it helps her lot because it keeps her focused and be able to deal with challenges accordingly and effectively.
“Without the support I receive daily, my business wouldn’t be growing as it is right now,” reflected Vilane.
She is very appreciative of the support she receives and looking forward to making more customer relationships and partnerships with educational institution that allow learners to ware suede shoes.
Vilane’s business mindset also made her realise that she is an author, so these days she is definitely reading her own book titled ‘I AM HERE’ she is still editing it though, but it will soon be out.
Vilane’s dream is that she one day sees her book on the shelves.
