As Christmas approaches, Christians around the world are reminded that this sacred season is far more than decorations, gatherings and gifts.
At its heart, Christmas is a celebration of God’s greatest gift to humanity: The birth of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. It is a time to pause, reflect and realign our hearts with the true meaning of the season.
Humility
The Christmas story begins in humility. Jesus was not born in a palace, but in a manger, reminding us that God often works through simplicity. “She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them,” (Luke 2:7).
This moment speaks powerfully to Christians today, teaching us that God’s love is not about status or wealth, but about presence and purpose.
Christmas also brings a message of hope to a weary world. The prophet Isaiah foretold this moment centuries before Christ’s birth: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,” (Isaiah 9:6). In Jesus, Christians find hope for salvation, forgiveness and new life. His birth marked the fulfilment of God’s promise to restore His people and draw them back to Himself.
At the centre of Christmas is love. The Bible reminds us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,” (John 3:16).
Christmas calls Christians to live out this love in practical ways, through kindness, generosity and compassion, especially towards the vulnerable and the forgotten. It is a season that challenges believers to reflect Christ’s love in their homes, communities and workplaces.
The angels’ proclamation to the shepherds still echoes today: “Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests,” (Luke 2:14).
Peacemaker
Christmas invites Christians to be peacemakers, to seek reconciliation and to share the good news of Christ’s birth with joy and humility. As we approach Christmas, may believers be reminded that the season is not only about celebrating a historical event, but about welcoming Christ anew into our lives. Christmas is a call to faith, hope and love, a sacred reminder that God is with us, Emmanuel, now and always.
