When passion and resilience intertwine, the possibilities are limitless. This mantra resonates deeply with Fundiswa Tsabedze, a talented nail technician whose journey is a shining example of determination and self-belief.

Tsabedze has transformed her love for nail artistry into a thriving business, creating stunning designs that leave her clients in awe. How does she do it? “With resilience and a genuine love for what you do, there are no limits to what you can achieve,” she says.

From employee to entrepreneur

Her story began as an employee in the beauty industry, but her heart was captivated by the world of nail design. “I used to work for someone until I fell in love with this nail tech thing,” she recalls. Taking a leap into entrepreneurship fueled by her passion, she embraced the unknown, ready to carve out her niche in a competitive field. Starting with just one client, Fundiswa has cultivated an impressive reputation for delivering top-notch nail artistry.

Power of visibility

To promote her business, Fundiswa harnesses the power of social media, regularly showcasing her work to attract new clients. “You shouldn’t just post or advertise your work four times a week; at least advertise your work four times a day,” she believes. This strategic approach has proven to be one of the best decisions for her success, as consistent visibility has become a cornerstone of her brand.

Tsabedze offers a diverse range of services, from manicures and pedicures to rejuvenating foot spas. Her dedication to her craft is evident in every detail of her work. She credits her older sister, Thandekile, as a pivotal influence in her journey. Thandekile has taught Fundiswa the importance of leading from behind, fostering an environment where others can thrive while offering unwavering support and guidance. This philosophy has cultivated trust, collaboration and a continuous desire to learn from those around her.

Core values that shape success

Integrity, self-awareness, respect, compassion and resilience are the values that underpin her  work ethic and customer service approach. For her, delivering exceptional service is not just a job; it’s a commitment to exceeding her clients’ expectations. When customers come to her with specific ideas, Tsabedze is dedicated to bringing their visions to life, paying meticulous attention to every detail to ensure satisfaction.

Recognising the importance of order and cleanliness, Tsabedze maintains a spotless workspace and upholds the highest standards of hygiene in her nail treatments. She understands that her clients’ time is valuable, so she prioritises appointments and ensures they never have to wait.

Advice for aspiring nail technicians

For those aspiring to enter the world of nail artistry, Tsabedze has some sage advice. She encourages newcomers to stay motivated and cultivate self-belief, acknowledging that competition is an inherent part of the industry. Flexibility is crucial when dealing with diverse clients, and being open to learning new techniques can set one apart in a crowded market. She is no stranger to challenges; she encounters a variety of personalities, from pleasant to rude. She stresses the importance of adaptability and understanding that support may not always come from expected sources. Her passion for her work drives her to go the extra mile, distinguishing her from other nail technicians.

Future of endless possibilities

Fundiswa firmly believes that her passion, aligned with her core values, has propelled her to where she is today and will continue to guide her toward greater heights. Currently, she draws inspiration from the book ‘Surrounded by Idiots’ by Thomas Erikson, which fuels her understanding of human behaviour and enhances her approach to customer interactions.
