MBABANE— Eswatini giants Nsingizini Hotspurs are ramping up their preparations for another shot at continental glory.
The Eswatini champions begin with a high-profile return to South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Province this month. Insingizi Yezulu are set to fine-tune their squad in the prestigious Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, which officially launches tomorrow, July 14, in Ulundi. The pre-season tournament promises to provide a gruelling test for the Eswatini outfit, with South African Betway Premiership sides AmaZulu FC and Siwelele heavily tipped to feature in the line-up.
For Nsingizini, this tournament represents unfinished business and a vital launchpad. In the 2025 edition, Hotspurs were crowned joint champions alongside AmaZulu after a dramatic conclusion to the campaign. Nsingizini had booked their spot in the final via a nerve-shredding 6-5 penalty shootout victory following a tense 0-0 draw in regular time, while AmaZulu fought back to defeat Njampela FC 2-1.
However, the highly-anticipated grand finale at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium was washed out. Torrential rainfall left the pitch waterlogged and severely compromised visibility, forcing organisers to call off the match for safety reasons and share the trophy.
This time around, the stakes are vastly different. Nsingizini are using the tournament to build tactical resilience ahead of the gruelling CAF Champions League preliminary rounds, scheduled for September 4–6, 2026.
The club is driven by the heartbreak of last year’s continental campaign, where their dreams were shattered in a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Tanzanian powerhouses Simba SC in the second round. Having tasted the margins of elite African football, Hotspurs are fiercely determined to bridge the gap.
By testing themselves against top-tier South African opposition this month, Nsingizini are laying the groundwork for what they hope will be a historic march into the CAF Champions League group stages. Facing elite regional rivals in Ulundi is exactly the baptism of fire they need to ensure they are battle-ready for the ultimate continental showpiece.
