MBABANE – Green Mamba have officially released senior midfielders Khethokuhle Mkhontfo and Mbongeni ‘Mshishi’ Magagula ahead of next month’s CAF Confederation Cup tie against Primeiro de Agosto.

The team confirmed the transfer listings with immediate effect, explaining that the decision “forms part of the club’s ongoing efforts to refresh the squad and build a team that will continue to compete at the highest level.”

Expressing gratitude for their commitment, professionalism and role in the club’s proudest moments, Green Mamba noted that the doors would always remain open for the pair.

The opening fixture takes place between September 4–6, with the return match set for September 11–13.

While the departures leave a void in the midfield, Mamba acted swiftly last week by signing former Mbabane Swallows star Nhlanhla Ngwenya, an established midfielder brought in to bolster the squad.

Green Mamba make their return to continental action after previously missing out due to budget constraints. Their previous appearance was in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

Notably, Primeiro de Agosto bring solid pedigree to the tie, having reached the Confederation Cup group stage in 2009 after dropping down from the Champions League round of 16.

The Angolan side are familiar with Eswatini opponents, having met Mbabane Swallows in the 2018 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League group stage. Umkhonto KaShaka won 1–0 at home via a Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst goal, while Agosto claimed a 2–1 victory in the reverse fixture.

With a refreshed squad and a tough opponent ahead, Green Mamba face a demanding return to the African stage.
