MBABANE – Netball Eswatini has budgeted E200 000 to send the elite men’s national team to the Africa Netball Cup in Kenya later this month.
The 2026 Africa Netball Cup, which doubles as the Netball World Cup 2027 Africa Regional Qualifiers, is scheduled to take place from September 19 to 26 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, Kenya.
The financial target was revealed by Netball Eswatini (NESWA) President Jabulile Thwala during a media briefing held at Sigwaca House yesterday. The briefing was also attended by NESWA Interim Chairman for Ladies Elite Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini and men’s team Captain Fortune Neves.
Thwala announced that the association has arranged an international friendly match against continental powerhouse South Africa to raise funds for the trip. She explained that inviting their South African counterparts was a strategic move, given SA’s status as the top-ranked side in the region and continent.
“We hope this game will attract sports lovers from across the country because South Africa are currently the best in the business. We have set the admission fee at E50 per person to help raise the necessary funds for our trip,” Thwala said.
She added that the association is working tirelessly to secure the required E200 000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses for the squad.
“The fundraising match will take place at the Mavuso Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday, starting at 2pm,” she concluded.
