MBABANE – For fast-rising Eswatini musical force Sancheziey, the journey from navigating the heavy fog of depression to seeing his creative work dissected and celebrated on one of Africa’s biggest digital broadcasting platforms feels nothing short of surreal.
The breakout star, whose infectious rhythms and cultural pride have breathed fresh life into the regional music scene, recently found himself at the centre of a major conversation when the team behind MacG’s popular podcast spotlighted his hit track ‘Siyabonga Gogo’.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sancheziey opened up about how far the journey has stretched, particularly recalling the dark days of 2023 when the odds felt entirely stacked against him.
“Back in 2023, when I was going through depression, I was watching everything on MacG’s channel just to get through the day and escape reality. I never thought one day my work would be part of a discussion on such a platform. I am really touched and humbled. I extend my sincere gratitude firstly to the families that played the song now and then in their union, and for him, Thakgi, to go and raise it in Music Pulse is everything,” he said.
The unexpected shout-out has served as a powerful catalyst for the artist, reinforcing a deep-seated belief in divine timing and perseverance.
“This comes as a reason to press on even harder because the heavens keep on leading my way with light, grace, and truly His plans and timing are perfect,” he noted.
With momentum firmly on his side, Sancheziey and the broader Salukazana family are setting their sights firmly across the border. The ambition is clear: Break into the fiercely competitive South African market, and do so sooner rather than later.
“The plan for the Salukazana family is getting to the SA market sooner than tomorrow, so if we are getting such shout-outs, we can see that we are on the right spot and SA soon enough will be jamming to what is called Swati music,” Sancheziey explained.
Sancheziey’s influence has grown even higher just recently as he performed before Their Majesties at the EITF luncheon before King Mswati III toured the stands at the different pavilions.
As he looks back on his evolution from an escapist viewer finding solace on YouTube to a celebrated creator whose craft commands attention across international borders, Sancheziey’s message to the next generation remains steadfastly hopeful.
“I can say to every African child: It is possible, keep dreaming. If one needs a story of motivation, my life is. I further humble myself in appreciating the whole Music Pulse production team, Thakgi, and the whole MacG family. Thank you for seeing my work,” he said.
