MBABANE – Newly-signed MTN Premier League side Amawele South African-born player Aichel Calane is looking at helping Amawele win a trophy this season.

Speaking to FARPost, Calane confirmed his move to the Eswatini outfit and expressed delight over his new venture following his spell in Namibia.

“I arrived here four weeks ago and trained with the team for a week. After that, everything was finalised,” Celane told FARPost.

He stated that he even got a chance to play in a cup game last weekend, the 2026 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, stating that he is feeling happy to have signed for the team and is feeling at home already.

“I am ready to help the team finish the season in a better position in the league and at least try to win a cup this season.”

Calane is part of a growing South African contingent at the Msunduza-based outfit under the leadership of President Chief Ally Kgomongwe. The club recently completed the signings of two other South African players alongside Calane, while two additional players are still trying their luck under the watchful eyes of former Ludzeludze Killers gaffer Mapho Ngwenya.

Kgomongwe has built a strong reputation in local football circles for bringing former South Africa Premier Soccer League stars to the kingdom, previously recruiting big names such as former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns overlapping left-back Punch Masenamela, ex-AmaZulu striker Josef ‘The Beast’ Lekata and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni. The team is also closing in on a high-profile move for former Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro Sphelele Ntshangase, who is set to bolster their squad.

‘Tamshana’, as Amawele are affectionately known, are currently preparing for their upcoming league campaign under the guidance of Public Relations Officer David ‘Var’ Ndwandwe. The side will sport a striking black and white kit for the 2026/27 MTN Premier League season, retaining their traditional green and yellow strip as an alternative to preserve their deep connection with the people of Msunduza.

The club underwent a transitional phase after former Director Thando ‘Mangoza’ Shabangu stepped down following a successful maiden top-flight campaign where he saved the side from relegation. The team subsequently lost influential skipper Njabulo ‘Kitaza Jive’ Magongo to Ubombo Sugar and reliable left-back Machawe Dlamini to Green Mamba, prompting Kgomongwe to step in as the new owner and revamp the squad with experienced talent as they gear up to face Ezulwini United.
