Taiwan Day serves up a feast of culture, creativity

Food has a unique way of bringing people together, and this was evident at Taiwan Day 2026, which turned The Crescent Shopping Mall in Ezulwini into a colourful celebration of food, fashion, culture and friendship last Saturday.

Held under the theme ‘Celebrating Friendship, Culture and Community’, with the message ‘Brighter Friendships, A Brighter Tomorrow’, the event offered members of the public an opportunity to explore Taiwanese and Asian culture while celebrating local creativity.

Food took centre stage throughout the day, with stalls offering different Asian-inspired flavours and products. Live cooking demonstrations added another dimension to the experience, allowing visitors to watch dishes being prepared while learning more about the ingredients, techniques and culinary traditions behind them.

The event built on the popularity of previous Asian Food Fair activities but expanded the concept to include a wider celebration of cultural exchange.

ENERGETIC

Beyond the food, visitors were treated to an energetic programme featuring lion dancing, kung fu, K-pop, music and other cultural performances. The variety ensured that the event offered something for different age groups, turning the shopping mall into a lively meeting point for families, food lovers and culture enthusiasts.

Fashion was another major highlight, with five local designers taking to the runway to showcase their creativity. The showcase provided an opportunity for local fashion talent to interpret cultural influences through their own designs, demonstrating how international cultural exchange can inspire local creativity.

The fashion showcase was styled by Vanessa Gwebu, while members of the local fashion and creative industry formed part of the judging panel.

The presence of Taiwan’s Chargé d’Affaires, Ching-lin Tsuei, further highlighted the friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini, with the two countries celebrating 58 years of diplomatic relations.

More than a cultural showcase, Taiwan Day demonstrated how food, fashion and entertainment can create meaningful opportunities for people to connect, learn about different cultures and celebrate the creativity found within their own communities.
