TAINAN, TAIWAN – His Majesty the King has been described as a ‘natural pilot’ with excellent technique by Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te.

The president made this assertion during the King’s visit to the Tainan Aviation Training Command, where he was hosted together with Liphovela LaZuma yesterday. The institution has previously trained 11 Eswatini pilots and maintenance officers. The King and LaZuma experienced simulator training, after which President Lai praised the King’s performance, describing him as ‘a natural pilot’ who flies very steadily with excellent technique.

The president also presented the King with a certificate and a command jacket, then invited him to board a Black Hawk helicopter to compare the sensations of simulated flight with those of sitting in an actual cockpit.

President Lai expressed hope that the engagement would deepen mutual understanding and further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Taiwan and the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The command is responsible for training helicopter pilots and aviation maintenance personnel for Taiwan’s armed forces.

The Presidents Office reported that between 2019 and 2020, the command assisted in training 11 Eswatini flight officers and maintenance personnel in connection with the transfer of UH-1H helicopters and later sent instructors to Eswatini to share flying and maintenance expertise.

The King and delegation also visited the Floral Industry Innovation Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture.
