MBABANE – Rescued!

Mbabane Highlanders stars goalkeeper Qiniso ‘Kati’ Nyawo and defender Ndumiso ‘Ndura’ Mabuza, have escaped jail time after the team came to their rescue by paying E5 000 for two pairs of football boots they owed to Ezulwini United goalkeeper Innocent Adja.

According to a source close to the black and white capital city giants, the duo’s case was back at the Small Claims Court on Wednesday, as Adja was eager to get his money. The source alleged that the players were not present when the matter was heard, as they are currently away in Durban for a month-long pre-season.

“There was a Highlanders official who was representing the players, and he is the one who paid the money for them. Otherwise, a court order was to be issued for their arrest for not coming to the Small Claims Court,” the source said.

Inkunzi’emnyama legend Charlies ‘Ace’ Jele confirmed that the team had paid the E5 000 owed by the players to the ‘Stingers’ goal-custodian but did not want to go into details.

“Highlanders felt that it was necessary to pay for the players as we only considered that they are our players,” Jele said.
