EZULWINI – Visiting South Africa’s professional golfer and 2023 champion, Hayden Griffiths, bounced back yesterday to claim the biggest prize of the King’s Cup Golf Tournament.

Griffiths carded a 12-under-par over the three days to pocket the revised prize of E240 262, outclassing defending champion and fellow countryman, Keenan Davidse. He carded 11-under to walk away with E164 350. The final round was a nail-biter, with Griffiths holding off intense pressure from his closest rivals until the very last hole at Ezulwini Golf and Country Club.

The champion, who finished 11th last year, said he had a jittery start on Friday, but gradually picked up pace until the final day. He admitted that the runner-up gave him hostile competition until the end, with just a few holes making the difference.

At least 16 local golfers had made it to the final round of the 2025 King’s Cup. The best-performing liSwati was James Pennington, who finished ninth in an event that also attracted golfers from Malawi and Namibia.
