LOBAMBA – Defending Thobile Ngwenyama and new winner Ncamiso Hlatshwako reportedly spent a collective of over E3 000 on their running shoes.

Ngwenyama retained her trophy in the 21km racing 1:32:58 hours. This is an improvement of two minutes from the 1:34:23 achieved last year. She raced in Hoka Extension 1 running shoes valued at E1 800.

Meanwhile, Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) athlete Nongcebo Mathabela sealed second spot at 1:36:23 ahead of South African Nokukhanya Memela, who ran 1 hour 39 minutes.

“Determination and not giving up contributed to this victory today. I was under pressure from last year that is why I wanted to defend this title. It was a perfect weather for a run and the route was equally good,”Ngwenyama said.

Hlatshwako raced in 1:08:06 hours to dethrone Abednigo Mashaba, who had emerged victorious last year with a time of 01:08:55.

For showing prowess, they both received E10 000 each. Hlatshwako had last competed in this particular category in 2023 and tested himself in the 10km last year after recovering from an injury. He ran using a second hand Nike Vapor fly estimated to be E1 500.
