MBABANE – Fresh turmoil has erupted at Mbabane Swallows after the Council of Elders has claimed to be dissolving the club’s leadership.

The development emerged yesterday when members of the Council of Elders delivered a press statement at the Times of Eswatini offices, indicating that they had also forwarded the communication to Swallows FC, the Premier League of Eswatini and the Eswatini Football Association.

The elders stated that they were acting in terms of the club’s constitution, although their position has not yet been officially recognised by the relevant football structures.

In the statement, Secretary Enock Nkosi said the Council of Elders had allegedly resolved to remove Chairman Absalom Ngwenya and disband the entire management committee. Nkosi further said they were aware of the recent judgment by Judge Zonke Magagula, which dismissed a previous attempt to establish control through a Pty Ltd structure.

He argued, however, that the Council of Elders operated as a separate body within the traditional club framework and, therefore, believed their actions were in line with constitutional provisions.

The elders alleged that their intervention followed growing concern over the club’s administration, citing issues such as alleged delays in salary payments, strained supporter relations and fears over the team’s recent on-field struggles.

Nkosi said the tensions reportedly escalated last year when the management committee allegedly did not attend a planned meeting with supporters in Malkerns, and later again at St Mark’s High School.

According to the press statement, the elders claimed to have invoked various constitutional articles in reaching their decision, which they believe empowers them to restructure the club’s leadership model.

They further alleged that a previous supporters’ meeting in August 2025 had favoured transitioning the club into a private company model.
