MBABANE – Gospel sensation Nothando Hlophe has achieved a staggering digital milestone.
Her soul-stirring live performance of ‘Methodist Medley’ has surpassed an extraordinary four million views on YouTube.
The success of the track, taken from her new album ‘A New Dawn’, is a clear indication that authentic, heartfelt worship music continues to resonate deeply, transcending borders and denominations to inspire millions across the continent. The Phenomenon of the viral hymn was recorded live on June 7, 2025, at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre.
The live recording, characterised by Hlophe’s signature powerhouse vocals and dynamic band, bridges the gap between traditional church worship and contemporary Gospel soundscapes. The track’s ascent has been nothing short of meteoric. It quickly garnered an initial 100 000 views within its first seven days before soaring past the one million and three million view marks.
The song’s lyrics, which focus on themes of divine protection and spiritual refuge, strike a universal chord. The song has become a staple on social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook, where its sound is widely used in reels and testimonies, amplifying its reach far beyond Eswatini’s borders.
The YouTube triumph arrives in the midst of a ground-breaking season for Hlophe, confirming her position as a force in African Gospel music. Continental Recognition: She recently clinched the highly prestigious Best of Africa Gospel Artist Award at the 18th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in South Africa, demonstrating her growing influence on the continent.
National dominance: The song itself won the Best Song of the Year during the recent National Gospel Music Awards, where Hlophe also swept two more major awards: Best Gospel Artist and Best Gospel Album for her project, ‘A New Dawn’.
Her manager, Phindokuhle Sithole, mentioned that the success of Methodist Medley reaching 4 million views is a strong indicator of a cultural and musical shift taking place among listeners today. Audiences are clearly gravitating towards music that carries authenticity, spirituality and cultural identity. This milestone shows that people are reconnecting with sounds that are rooted in tradition, faith and music that speaks to who they are and where they come from.
“The numbers suggest a definite shift, people are not rejecting modern music entirely, but they are becoming more selective. They want depth, they want sincerity, they want music that reflects real experiences and real worship. Methodist Medley offers exactly that and the overwhelming response shows that listeners are embracing it,” he said.
Sithole elaborated that in many ways, Nothando is fulfilling a significant demand in the market, a demand for spiritually grounded music that blends heritage with heartfelt worship. There has been a gap in the space of traditional yet fresh gospel expressions and this medley has stepped in to meet that need.
