MBABANE – South African Amapiano musician Sha Sha delivered an electrifying performance at the Espinho Shutdown crossover show.

The event, hosted at the Espinho Restaurant & Bar, was intended to be a crossover celebration. However, just as the crowd reached a fever pitch and the South African-based artist  was preparing to take the stage, a fleet of police officers descended upon the venue at 1am. The officers requested that the venue close even before the headliner’s performance.

The atmosphere turned from celebratory to anxious, as the music was cut. Law enforcement officials moved in shortly before Sha Sha’s scheduled appearance, citing undisclosed operational concerns. For 30 tense minutes, the fate of the shutdown hung in the balance.

In a display of calm crisis management, Espinho Restaurant owner Thembi Jwankie was seen in deep consultation with the officers. While the crowd waited in hushed anticipation, singing songs such as ‘Niwabizelani Amaphoyisa’ (Why are you calling the police) and shouting that they wanted their money back if they did not get to see Sha Sha, Jwankie navigated the delicate negotiations.

Following the discussions, a resolution was reached. To the roar of the relieved crowd, the officers stepped back, the lights dimmed and the go-ahead was given. The officers subsequently returned at 3am to close the event following their earlier discussions.

The BET Award winner delivered a masterclass in vocal prowess and stage presence. Setting the stage ablaze, she moved through a catalogue of hits, including ‘Woza’ and ‘Tender Love’. The delay appeared only to have fuelled her energy as she turned the restaurant’s outdoor space into a pulsating sanctuary of sound. The event also featured South African DJ Sasa, who delivered a powerful set on stage.
