MANZINI – The battle for the 2025/26 Ingwenyama Cup ‘Golden Boot’ is officially in full swing.

Up to E10 000 is up for grabs for the sharpshooter in the tournament sponsored to a tune of E5 million by the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF). The Last 16 produced a scoring frenzy, with two braces recorded. Last season’s top marksman, Young Buffaloes’  Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze, who claimed the crown with five goals, has already signalled his intent to defend his title. He needed just two games last season to seal this achievement.

Gamedze was the difference-maker at Mayaluka Stadium in their Last 32, netting the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Amathol’ezinyathi against MulaSport National First Division (NFD) outfit Magwanyana. Nevertheless, he failed to pull one back against Sisonkhe this past Saturday, with Owa ‘Logwaja’ Matsebula sealing the decisive goal.

The headlines this weekend were stolen by Malanti Chiefs forward Isaac Yeboah, who pulled another brace. He is currently the scorers’ race with four goals, having recorded another in their Last 32 against Manzini Super League side Louis XIV. Yeboah is just 270 minutes away from clinching the E10 000 package, with three games left to play in the tournament. Elsewhere, NFD side Msumpe Manchester forward Lundi Dlamini scored twice against Rangers to join the ‘party’. Their match ended in a 4-all draw before Msumpe ultimately won 5-3 on penalties.

Mbabane Highlanders’ attacking midfielder Siyabonga Mkhonto was derailed in his ambitions after their game against Nsingizini Hotspurs resulted in abandonment two days ago. Mkhonto had not scored before chaos erupted, with Highlanders supporters storming the pitch and manhandling officials as a result of what they concluded as poor officiating. With the verdict of this clash still pending at the time of compiling this report, the latter may still have an opportunity to twist things around. In a ruthless display at Mavuso Sports Centre, Mkhonto bagged a stunning hat-trick to spearhead a sweet revenge mission against Lozitha Spurs on February 1, 2026.
