When life deals us a share of its challenges, having an escape in Christ brings with it a deep sense of peace and love. Experiencing His divine presence allows one to navigate the world’s difficulties, guiding our hearts and minds.
Meet this week’s feature, a teacher at Ekudwaleni High School and a dedicated member of Hluti United Apostolic Faith Church, Phiwa Hlophe. An individual who embodies a faith story characterised by an intense personal transformation.
Hlophe describes his spiritual encounter with God as an experience of divine presence that manifested from past struggles.
The desire to know the Lord sparked a profound shift in his thoughts and actions, which brought about a deep sense of peace and love.
“I was uplifted to a deeper faith, a hunger for God’s Word and the desire to live in obedience to Him for each and every second, which completely changed my life,” Hlophe shares.
Furthermore, Hlophe recalls how in that moment, he felt freed from his old habits, desires and mental chains to become a ‘new being’ in Christ.
He quoted 2 Corinthians 5:17: “ Therefore, if any person is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, the fresh and new has come.”
The encounter, as Hlophe reminisces, ignited a deep longing for God’s Word and a greater hunger for spiritual understanding. 1 Peter 2:2 states that: “Like newborn babies, you should crave the pure spiritual milk, that by it, you may be nurtured and grow unto completed salvation.”
God revealed Himself through visions or dreams, providing a direct personal connection.
“By reading the first chapter in the Book of Nehemia, I got to understand the importance of trusting a vision from God because that is where God created a vision of the New Jerusalem, before Nehemia began to rebuild Jerusalem,” Hlophe recalls.
Adding, he said: “I started to observe the fulfilment of some dreams in my life and other things that came as visions when I prayed or sat alone. I then decided to fully surrender my heart to God, inviting Him to take control of my life.
In times of struggle, fear or burnout, Hlophe realised that God dealt with all the things holding him back and how it awakened a deeper awareness of the Holy Spirit and elevated his relationship with God.
Hlophe’s journey of faith, as he describes it, has been like setting out on a path into the unknown, guided by belief and spirituality.
He has faced adversities, doubts and realisations. He states that his character and perspective have been shaped by the enlightening experience and the Almighty’s love and protection.
To fellow Christians seeking to strengthen their connection with Christ and to those seeking his presence, Hlophe shares Psalm 34:8:
“Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
He also shares that the brethren should consider that there are challenges in the journey of faith, but with obedience and devotion to God, they become stepping stones to their blessings.
Lastly, he shared that with God, one is assured of triumph.
