MBABANE – ESWACAA is inviting investors to explore opportunities in agro-processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, cargo logistics, renewable energy and waste management within the proposed SEZ at King Mswati III International Airport.

The Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA) is positioning the airport precinct as a potential investment destination for businesses seeking to access regional and international markets while taking advantage of its proximity to aviation infrastructure and logistics services.

The proposed development is expected to create opportunities for investors to establish industrial facilities, cargo-handling infrastructure, cold storage facilities and regional freight–forwarding operations, among other commercial ventures.

Agro-processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing have been identified as potential growth areas within the SEZ, with the airport’s location offering opportunities to facilitate the movement of goods and improve access to markets beyond Eswatini.

For agro-processing companies, the development could provide a platform for value addition and the distribution of products to regional and international destinations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers could also explore opportunities to establish operations supported by air cargo infrastructure and specialised logistics services.

The authority is also looking to attract investment in cargo terminals, cold storage facilities and freight-forwarding operations to strengthen the country’s participation in regional and international supply chains.

Such infrastructure could help businesses manage the movement of goods more efficiently, particularly where speed, storage conditions and reliable connections to destination markets are important. Beyond manufacturing and logistics, the airport precinct presents opportunities in renewable energy, including solar farm projects, as well as waste management infrastructure such as a sanitary landfill and recycling facilities. These proposed investments form part of a broader effort to develop the airport into a commercial hub capable of supporting industrialisation, trade and sustainable economic development.

The proposed SEZ is expected to leverage the airport’s infrastructure and surrounding land to attract businesses whose operations could benefit from proximity to air transport, cargo-handling facilities and other logistics services. The intention is to bring together manufacturing, warehousing, freight forwarding and related commercial activities within an integrated economic zone.

For investors, the opportunity extends beyond establishing individual businesses to participating in the development of infrastructure that could support a wider network of commercial operations.

Cargo terminal development, for instance, could support exporters and importers requiring airfreight services, while cold storage facilities could serve businesses handling temperature-sensitive products.

Solar energy projects could contribute towards meeting the electricity needs of the airport precinct and its future industrial tenants, while waste management investments would support the development of the wider commercial zone.
