Our client, a company developing a large-scale biomass-to-energy production facility in Eswatini, seeks to appoint a highly experienced Works Manager to lead the construction, commissioning, and operational start-up of the plant.
The role requires a candidate with extensive international-standard EPC project experience combined with operational biomass processing expertise, and the ability to manage the transition from construction through stable commercial operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in engineering design, technology evaluation, or industrial processing operations.
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing large-scale engineering or industrial projects.
    • At least 5 years – 10 years’ direct experience in biomass processing, pellet production, or biomass-to-energy operations.
    • Minimum of 10 years’ demonstrated experience in EPC project management, including contractor oversight and commissioning.
    • Minimum 3 years working knowledge of FIDIC Silver Book or similar EPC contract frameworks.
    • Minimum 5 years proven experience in project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and formal document management systems.
    • Experience managing health, safety, environmental, and ESG compliance requirements in industrial operations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role commences upon hire, which is targeted for July 2026, and shall continue through:
Construction Phase:
    • Final EPC design review and approval;
    • Full construction and installation;
    • Mechanical and process commissioning;
    • Performance testing and acceptance;
    • Ramp-up to full name plate capacity;
    • Demonstrated stable operations for a minimum period of six (6) consecutive months at or above agreed performance criteria; and
    • Completion of handover and knowledge transfer to the permanent operating team.

Operations Phase:
    • After the construction and testing phase to manage the O&M Contractor to produce of Wood pellets at volume and specifications defined;
    • Recruit, onboard, and develop the permanent operational workforce;
    • Achieve demonstrated stable and compliant plant operations in line with the technical specifications provided for in the EPC contract;
    • Ensure production output from the plant consistent with the specifications provided for in the product Offtake contract;
    • Manage workplace safety, health and environment;
    • Ensure stable and harmonious relations with the surrounding communities impacted by or associated with plant operations; and
    • Satisfy the ESG requirements of Emerald’s investor group, in particular with IFC-specified metrics.


REMUNERATION
The successful candidate will be remunerated with an industry-competitive compensation package.
