MBABANE – The SUB Teqball Singles League is well underway, serving up a feast of exhilarating matches and fierce competition across its various groups.
As of yesterday, the early dominance of several players was already apparent in the Group A and Group B standings, though a few surprises emerged from the opening rounds.
Mayenziwe Malaza has wasted no time in establishing an early lead in Group B. With two wins from the same number of games played, he remains undefeated. An impressive goal difference of +4 and a total of six points underscore Malaza’s formidable presence on the teqball table. Close behind are Melo Ngwenyama and Velaphi Diamini, both of whom have accumulated three points from a win, a draw and a loss each. Ngwenyama boasts a level goal difference, a record matched by Diamini.
However, Prince Mokeona currently finds himself at the foot of the table, having suffered two losses with no win or draw. His goal difference stands at -4, leaving him with zero points. Key encounters so far include Malaza’s decisive 2-0 victory over Mokeona and Diamini’s 2-0 win against Ngwenyama, setting the stage for an intense battle as the league progresses.
Meanwhile, Group A is proving to be a much tighter affair, with Mndeni Mbuyisa and Manzi Simelane currently leading the pack. Mbuyisa has played three games, securing two wins and a draw without a single loss, putting him on seven points with a goal difference of +4. Simelane is hot on his heels, also with seven points from three games, consisting of one win and two draws, and a goal difference of +2.
Taribo Bhembe, who also serves as the President of the Teqball Eswatini Federation (TEF), occupies third place. From his two games played, he has one win and one draw, giving him four points and a goal difference of +2. At the other end of the spectrum, veteran player and one of the few women in the sport, Naomi Du Pont, alongside Mpendulo Diamini, are yet to secure a win.
Both have suffered two losses, resulting in a goal difference of -4 and zero points. Notable results in this group include Mbuyisa’s 2-0 victory over Bhembe and a competitive 1-1 draw between Simelane and Mbuyisa, highlighting the fiercely competitive nature of Group A.
