As a burgeoning practice in the country, the field of mental health continues to grow both in stature and in relevance, especially in our everyday lives. We are constantly using our psycho-emotional infrastructures for the various activities that we take-on on a daily basis.

For this reason, it makes it quite vital that we stay in ‘tip-top’ psychological form in readiness for whatever the day, or our lives in general, throw out at us. The issue of mental health is steadily growing in and among individuals as well, as, at every passing, we bear witness to stories, events and in some disturbing instances, cases that continue to demonstrate how sensitive an issue this continues to be.

Drawing from these observations, it is only right that we continue to push the idea, the relevance and sheer significance of mental health as a key feature of our being as members of an highly active, hugely interactive world that we find ourselves fully immersed in.

On account of this, we are steadily subjects of this environment we are in whereby we are exposed to numerous situations that trigger us in a variety of ways which all end up impacting on us in a psycho-emotional sense. It demands a strong sense of psychological strength and resolve in order for us to be to navigate the different situations we find ourselves in and for us, to be able to make sound decisions, especially concerning key situations.

Day to day activities, work, school, our relationships among many others, are some of the things that make and take up our energy, especially physically, which consequently has a steady but substantial effect on our psycho-emotional well-being. Overtime, this constant exposure to these different commitments begins to have significant bearing on how we start to feel, think and eventually behave. It is with this in mind that, we continue to stress the importance of observing and monitoring one’s mental health as well as allowing yourself the opportunity to step back, re-evaluate and recover in order to re-gather the strength to ‘go again’.

To be honest, it is quite the stretch to imagine that we have endless psychological resources, as this would be quite the exaggeration, however, we do have the ability, the capacity as well as the responsibility to ensure that the resources that we do have, do not run dry as the detroment of this cannot be overstressed.

The growth and expansion of mental health professionals, both in number and in impact, continues to impress and this signifies an incredible breakthrough in the access to mental health services as regular civilians. Also, as mental health advocates, we continue to encourage the use of these services for the benefit of ‘the home’ as well as the people in it. We are losing way too many souls to complex mental health issues and as long as this concern exist, there remains work to be done. We are, however, on the right path and it is only a matter of time before we are fully accustomed to mental health as an important player in the functioning of our societal system.
