MBABANE – The recently launched National Gospel Music Awards (NGMA) has announced an overwhelming response from Eswatini’s vibrant Gospel music community, receiving over 500 entries from 110 artists within just one week of opening nominations.

The National Gospel Music Awards aim to be a beacon of celebration for Eswatini Gospel artists providing a crucial platform to promote and uplift Gospel talent across the kingdom.

The inaugural event is already demonstrating its potential to reshape the landscape of the local music industry. The call for nominations which opened just a week ago is set to close on August 12 at midnight. Following this deadline a dedicated adjudication team will meticulously review all submissions to determine the official nominees.

The much-anticipated nominee announcement is slated for the end of August at which point, public voting lines will officially open, allowing fans to support their favourite artists.

The sheer volume and diversity of entries highlight the broad reach and impact of the awards. Notable categories have seen significant interest with ‘Newcomer’ leading the pack with an impressive 34 entries. ‘Live Event or Recording’ and ‘Artist of the Year’ categories each garnered 24 entries while ‘Producer’ received 15 entries. Other categories have seen strong participation with entries ranging from eight upwards indicating widespread engagement across various facets of Gospel music production and performance.

Nathi Makhabane the Spokesperson for the NGMA expressed profound excitement regarding the initial response.

“This response has been received with immense excitement as we look forward to a well-balanced awards participation from all regions. It truly shows the hunger for such a platform within our Gospel community,” he said.

In a concerted effort to connect with talent across the entire country and bring the creative sector directly to the people, a series of activations are being hosted. Last Saturday, a highly successful Hhohho activation took place at Buhleni Plaza, drawing a significant number of local Gospel artists who participated alongside various associations to promote the awards.
