MANZINI — The Eswatini Dancesport Association (EDANSA) recently held its first national competition, known as National Dancestorm, at Caritas Manzini on Saturday.

The event was organised to select the country’s national dance team and brought together dancers of all ages and abilities. The competition featured a wide mix of styles from Ballroom and Latin, African dance, Hip Hop, Amapiano, Modern Jazz and Contemporary. Dancers performed across different levels, from beginners to championship class.  Special Olympics Director of Sport Ntsetselelo Singwane mentioned that one standout part of the event was the Special Section, which welcomed children with special needs and Special Olympics athletes. Singwane said it was the first time these groups took part, making the event more inclusive and meaningful. EDANSA President Skhumbuzo Magagula said that they will continue to host regular local events because it is these events that give young dancers a chance to show what they have learnt and connect with fellow artists. “Many children find joy and pride in improving their skills and performing in front of others,” said Magagula. He also added that the group is currently working without sponsors and is hoping for support as it moves to bigger stages.
