MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows players are reportedly set to be paid their salaries following a re-commitment from the Mozambican investors.
For some players, the wait for payment has reportedly lasted for about five months. Sources close to the club say that Donaldo Birage Enterprise (DBE) representative Niczar Amade has apologised for the delays that have cast a cloud of doubt over the entire deal.
The apology was reportedly made on Monday during a meeting where the team sought clarity on the status of the investment. The meeting included members of the management committee (MC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT).
Amade is said to have re-affirmed the investors’ commitment, stating that the transfer of funds had begun.
“Delays in money deposits were said to have been caused by technical challenges with the banks used to transfer money, and this was being worked on, with players expected to start receiving their salaries soon,” a source said.
Players were reportedly told they would receive their salaries in staggered payments. However, as of 3pm yesterday, the payments had allegedly not yet started.
It was also stated that former Coach Caleb ‘No-Nonsense’ Ngwenya has been appointed Caretaker Coach, with Monteiro no longer joining Umkhonto KaShaka. The deal between Dario Monteiro and the club reportedly fell through after they failed to reach a common ground on salary negotiations.
