MBABANE – In a shocking development, two of Mbabane Highlanders’ most influential players have been released.

Goalkeeper Qiniso Nyawo and Captain Thando Langa were let go, after failing to agree on new contract terms with their new employer, Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize. Nyawo is now reportedly linked with a return to Mbabane Swallows, while Langa is said to be eyeing a move to either Moneni Pirates or his former club Manzini Wanderers.

The decision to release the players follows allegations of disciplinary issues during the club’s pre-season training camp in South Africa, which began on July 20. A squad of 34 players had enthusiastically departed for the camp in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Throughout the course of the camp, other players, including Sibahle Sukati, Bhekisisa Dlamini, Sandile Ngcamphalala, Muhle Siyaya, Wandile Tshakala and Senzo Buthelezi, were also released.

According to sources, almost all remaining players will be tied down to new contracts, with more players expected to be released and new signings set to join the capital club. It is also alleged that the players’ salaries will remain the same as before, with the highest-paid player earning close to E10 000 and the lowest-paid receiving E4 000.

When reached for comment, Mbabane Highlanders Patron Charles ‘Ace’ Jele confirmed that the two players had been released. “We have released the two players, the goalkeeper Qiniso Nyawo and Thando Langa.”
