MPISI FARM – Thousands of maidens braved the scorching sun, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius in Manzini, as they walked approximately six kilometres over the course of an hour and a half.

Led by Indvuna yeMbali Bongiwe ‘Vivane’ Hlatjwako and Inkhosatana Sakhizwe, the members of the Imbali Regiment, which included Liphovela Nomcebo Zuma and an entourage of Emazinyane, set off from Mpisi Farm just after lunch and reached Mafutseni Police Station around 4pm. They made one stop along the way, where they were allowed to drink water and rest for a brief period.

Throughout the walk, their spirits remained high as they sang energetically. They demonstrated their enthusiasm by running occasionally and making stops to dance. Upon their arrival at Mafutseni Police Station, where buses awaited them, Indvuna ‘Vivane’ expressed her excitement about the journey.

She remarked that despite the harsh weather conditions, the Imbali Regiment showcased their deep love for their culture, evident in the energy they displayed during the entire walk from Mpisi Farm to the police station.

“I want to assure parents that their children are safe, healthy and happy,” she said.

Afterwards, they boarded buses from the police station to Ngabezweni Royal Residence, where they began yet another walk to Ludzidzini Royal Residence. Meanwhile, the spirits remained high as the energetic young Imbali left Luyengweni Royal Kraal for Ludzidzini Royal Residence, carrying the reeds collected from Bhamusakhe. Led by Princess Lomabheka, the regiment of young girls marched from the royal kraal to the Malkerns Research Centre, where they boarded buses to Mahlanya, joining the senior regiment before proceeding to the main royal residence.
