MBABANE – The South African Broadcasting Corporation has commended Babukisi Foundation for promoting culture and has granted them three educational interviews.
According to SABC Tindzaba bulletin editor Siphephile Kunene, they invited Babukisi Foundation in South Africa because of the role they are playing in promoting culture. “Our goal with what we are doing, as siSwati News, is to promote the language and preserve culture, this is why we invited you,” Kunene said.
Babukisi Foundation Executive Director Thobejane Magagula was interviewed in studio during the live broadcast of the news bulletin last week in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. A second interview was recorded on the same day, to be broadcast on a later date on SABC. The live interview on siSwati culture and traditions marked the end of Heritage Month in South Africa, which was a continuation of the virtual interview on September 18.
“It was clear that people liked what happened and Babukisi also gave us positive feedback. We decided that Babukisi should come to finish what they started and even though we could not delve deep, what we got was palatable,” said the SABC Tindzaba news bulletin editor.
Her sentiments were echoed by her colleagues, news anchors Rebecca Maseko and Simphiwe Ncongwane, who cut his teeth as a journalist on Channel S before moving to SABC in South Africa.
“Thank you very much to Babukisi Foundation, they had visited us at the SABC studios here in Johannesburg. The interview went well and his advice for us is to continue attending cultural ceremonies, as well as to follow our traditions,” said Maseko.
