MBABANE – The end of October will usher in a new era in corporate governance.

The King V corporate governance code will be released in South Africa by the Institute of Directors. Shortly after that, REDI will host a seminar to unpack this new report on November 6, 2025. This is a landmark event in leadership for all organisations. The King V code is the most recent version of a framework for ethical and effective corporate governance in South Africa. Application of the King code covers Southern Africa and is highly regarded globally.

Corporate governance is the system of rules, practices and processes that directs and controls an organisation. It defines the distribution of rights and responsibilities among stakeholders like the board, management and shareholders and provides the structure for setting and achieving organisational objectives. Good corporate governance promotes transparency, accountability and fairness and involves striking a balance between the interests of a company’s various stakeholders.

For King V, corporate governance is defined as the exercise of ethical and effective leadership by the governing body towards achieving the following governance outcomes for the organisation: an ethical culture, performance, conformance and legitimacy. Good corporate governance is a foundation attribute for a healthy organisation. It sets the tone as to how the organisation operates and behaves both internally and to the market generally. It does become a performance issue.

It is not surprising that REDI will be the first to open the discussion on King V in Eswatini.
