MBABANE – A dull crossover for Eswatini Gospel music fans.
A number of Gospel music fans were left disappointed as the Voice of the Church (VOC) made an announcement on their social media pages. The radio stations post mentioned that they will unfortunately not host any Gospels crossover show this year and that they will try again next year.
Fans flooded the post with disappointment messages as they were looking forward to fill up Mavuso trade center as they genesis 2026 together in Praise and worship.
Local Gospel artist now based in South Africa, Scara Maziya mentioned that he had already secured a show in Pretoria and he will be performing at the first annual Tshwane Crossover at Heartfelt Arena.
Maziya will share the stage with Shiba and the Travellers, Umkhokheli la Zwide and South African acts including Oncemore Six, Dumi Mkokstad and the Tshwane Gospel Choir. Maziya said the booking showed that his music reached audiences beyond Eswatini.
“I am happy for this opportunity as it shows that my music is recognised globally, not just in Eswatini,” he said. He described performing after Dumi Mkokstad as a personal milestone, calling it a longheld dream. However, he said the absence of a local crossover had negatively affected Gospel artists.
“Through crossovers, many artists were born. I was also born through them,” said Maziya, He also appealed to the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture to intervene as he believed there is still time to change the decision.
Some of the Gospel music lovers believed that the show would come back even stronger next year. " Gospel crossovers are very important, beyond the entertainment factor as they added Spiritual value and many lives are saved on these shows," read the comment.
