Sands and Velemseni set for Johannesburg showcase

MBABANE – Local artists Sands and Velemseni are scheduled to headline a live performance at Hard Rock Café in Johannesburg.

The event scheduled for April 4, 2026 is part of the ‘Saturday Nights Live’ series, the event titled ‘Eswatini Vibes with Sands’ will also feature a performance by soulful vocalist Velemseni.

The showcase is organised to bring the contemporary sounds of Eswatini to the event. Sands, known for his breakout Afro-soul hit ‘Tigi’ will lead a repertoire that blends traditional melodies with modern rhythms. This show comes just after he announced his new upcoming project, he will perform some of the songs from that project. Joined by Velemseni, whose musical style incorporates elements of Jazz and Neo-soul, she will bring soulful vibes to the event, also with a new project in preparation, she will perform some new songs at the event, as well as her old ones. Another local artist set to deliver an electrifying performance is Nhlonipho, a local artist based in South Africa.

In an interview, Sands promised good time for attendees of the event, stating that: “We promise the best of Eswatini live performance music. We are taking our craft to South Africa to showcase our brilliance. We urge all emaSwati here at home and outside to give support to this initiative as we start, hopefully we shall tour more cities in SA to showcase Eswatini music. We promise the best delivery,” he said.

The performance is slated to take place at the Hard Rock Cafe located in Nelson Mandela Square, in Sandton, starting at 6pm. The ‘Saturday Nights Live’ residency at the venue has previously hosted a variety of regional artists, including Joel Zuma and Nomabotwe. This upcoming installment focuses on the cross-border cultural exchange between Eswatini and South Africa. The evening is structured to include both intimate acoustic segments and high-energy live band performances.
