LOBAMBA-His Majesty King Mswati III says test and pain are essential for achieving success in life.
Addressing the nation gathered at the Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the King emphasised that all people need to do is remain faithful, respectful, and humble before God throughout their trials.
He used the example of Abraham, who was so close to God that He blessed him with a child at the age of 100, alongside his 90-year-old wife Sarah. The King explained that there came a time when God tested Abraham by commanding him to sacrifice his son Isaac, who was born to him along with Ishmael.
“It was not easy when Abraham received this commandment, but through faith, he committed to carrying it out as instructed,” the King said. He added that when the day of the sacrifice arrived, Abraham told his wife that he was leaving with Isaac for worship at the mountain.
“Abraham was strategic because he did not want any disruption following God’s commandment,” he explained. As the story goes, the King noted that Isaac had grown to about 16 years old by the time they ascended Mount Moriah, and could have escaped from his father. However, Isaac did not consider fleeing because his father had not disclosed that he was the sacrificial lamb.
The King stated that it became particularly painful for Abraham when Isaac, observing the firewood, fire ropes, and knife, asked him where the sacrificial lamb was. “If you were Abraham at this stage, what could have been your response if your son, with his hands tied and lying on the firewood, asked you?” the King posed.
He emphasised that Abraham never forgot that God was the source of his blessing, having granted him Isaac at the age of 100. The King questioned whether God’s command to sacrifice contradicted His 10 Commandments, which prohibit killing.
“Abraham never questioned God about this, but instead committed to obeying Him,” the King said. He further noted that, understanding Abraham’s willingness to carry out God’s command, God provided a lamb beside the firewood, with Isaac, whose hands were tied, lying on the firewood.
The King linked this story to the death, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, explaining that Jesus endured suffering after committing to be the sacrificial Lamb to save the world.
“In both instances, God and the Holy Spirit were present. The presence of the Son signifies the complete Trinity,” the King stated. He highlighted that the Trinity possesses a unique power.
“As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the question is: has He resurrected in your life?” the King asked.
He then prayed that God would bless and protect those in authority, the sick, the needy, and the entire nation with His unique power. The King also reminded the nation that losing focus and straying from God might attract curses into their lives.
