LOZITHA – The 2025/26 Ingwenyama Cup finalists will have to wait a little longer.
The grand finale of the prestigious tournament, which was scheduled to take place this Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium, has been rescheduled. However, the stakes remain as high as ever with the E1.45 million top prize still up for grabs.
The postponement of the finals was announced by the Chairman of the Ingwenyama Cup, Prince Hlangabeza, during a press briefing held at Lozitha Palace yesterday. The event was attended by the tournament’s sponsor, Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khangaziwe Mabuza, Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Polycarp Dlamini and Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President Steve Horton.
Also in attendance were Ingwenyama Cup Committee Secretary General (SG) Mbongeni Simelane, Prince Bonginkhosi from Bhekinkhosi and the Public Relations Officers (PROs) for both football and culture, Nkhosilenhle ‘Makawosi’ Masuku and Sandile ‘Msandi Kababa’ Nxumalo, respectively.
Addressing the media, Prince Hlangabeza announced that the festivities, which were scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, are now set for May 10 at the same venue following a directive from His Majesty King Mswati III.
“The King has sent me to inform the nation that the finals will now be played on May 10. He has also directed me to inform those who had invited guests for the event to now notify them of the new date,” the prince said briefly before dismissing the media.
The May 10 event at Somhlolo National Stadium will be headlined by the final between two-time champions Green Mamba and Nsingizini Hotspurs, who are in search of their first Ingwenyama Cup title. The winner of this tournament will represent the country in the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
In the women’s football category, defending champions Young Buffaloes will lock horns with long-time rivals Manzini Wanderers in a final set to act as a ‘curtain-raiser’ for the main match. This will be the first time Wanderers reach the Women’s Ingwenyama Cup finals. The nation will also witness finals for various cultural activities. Following the conclusion of the matches and cultural displays, the King will present prizes to all the champions.
