What’s stopping youth from getting their dream job?

At this year’s MTN Bushfire Festival, Likusasa Letfu spoke to young people about what’s holding them back from landing their dream jobs, getting promoted, or growing in business. Their honest answers revealed common challenges faced by many emaSwati.

 The money struggle
Most youth said the biggest block is lack of money. It is not just about surviving but it is about not having funds to take short courses, build a CV, or even start a business. Many spoke of needing scholarships and financial support to gain the skills or experience they need.

 No opportunities, no growth
Even when you are talented and hard-working, finding the right opportunity can be difficult. Some people are stuck in jobs because their bosses do not want to let them grow. Others said they feel blocked despite having qualifications. Networking is also a problem without connections, many are overlooked.

 Gaps in skills and confidence
Some youth admitted that they do not have enough experience or the right skills. Struggling with subjects like English or not knowing how to speak in public can also get in the way. A few said they still do not know what their dream job is so they’re unsure where to start.

Mental and emotional roadblocks
Lack of confidence, fear of failure, and stress are real challenges. Some give up too early or stay stuck out of fear or loyalty to a job that’s going nowhere. Others struggle with depression and anxiety that make it hard to stay motivated.

So, what’s the solution?
Likusasa Letfu has launched Thubelihle.org  a free online career platform designed to help you move forward. The site features the Thubelihle Career School, where you can access practical advice on job readiness, career planning, and personal growth. It also lists training centers across Eswatini where you can build in-demand skills.

You will find motivational videos to boost your mindset, networking tips, and even guidance on how to pitch your business idea. Thubelihle also highlights organizations that offer funding or support for young entrepreneurs.

Don’t let these challenges hold you back. Call 7958 5564 / 7803 3230 to book a session with the Likusasa Letfu Career Services Centre. Your dream job is possible, let’s get you there.
