Eswatini’s motoring landscape gained a fresh heartbeat this past weekend as Bakkie Life hosted its inaugural Bakkie Bonanza, a new lifestyle event celebrating the grit, camaraderie and unstoppable spirit of local bakkie enthusiasts.
Held on November 29, 2025, at the scenic Sand River Dam, the gathering marked the beginning of what aims to be a flagship tradition for lovers of utility vehicles and outdoor adventure.
Bakkie Life is more than a club; it’s a growing movement powered by people who thrive on muddy tracks, open skies and the rumbling promise of engines built for the wild.
At its core, the community unites professionals from across industries, construction, agriculture, business, engineering and more, using their shared love for bakkies as a bridge for networking, relaxation and wholesome outdoor fun.
With an open-door approach, the group welcomes bakkies of all shapes and sizes. If it has a load bed and a story to tell, it belongs.
A celebration of tough machines and good company
True to its lively name, the Bakkie Bonanza was envisioned as a vibrant, relaxed gathering anchored by activities that bring out the charm and challenge of utility vehicles. Attendees enjoyed bakkie tug-of-war battles, brand-based tug competitions, fishing, braais, cold beverages and slow-cooked potjie simmering over open fire.
While the team had anticipated up to 120 bakkies, an overnight thunderstorm trimmed the count to about 60 vehicles and around 80 attendees, many of whom proudly travelled from Manzini, Ezulwini and other corners of the country to support the first edition.
Dealership partners were undeterred by the weather. Mbabane Motors flew the flag for Isuzu, showcasing the bold 3.0-litre V-Cross, while NTT Toyota rolled in with the ever-popular Toyota Legend 2.8 GD6.
The convoy also featured a dynamic line-up from enthusiasts: Toyota GR, Land Cruiser, Isuzu D-Max and X-Rider, Ford Wildtrak, Toyota GD6 and more.
The day kicked off with a spirited departure from the Mhlume Country Club, where bakkies were escorted by the Royal Eswatini Police Service.
The convoy drove through the game reserve, stirring up dust and excitement before emerging at Sand River Dam, an arena perfectly suited for rugged play and riverside relaxation.
One standout moment stole the show: An Isuzu and Toyota Landcruiser teaming up to dramatically pull out a stuck boat, a crowd-pleasing display of muscle, teamwork and bakkie bravado.
The success of the first Bakkie Bonanza has ignited exciting plans for the next edition. The Bakkie Life team is already mapping out a follow-up event expected for March or April, with even more off-road challenges, more activities and an even bigger turnout envisioned.
