The year is winding down and if you haven’t already asked yourself what hustle am I starting next? Now is the perfect time. Forget those end-of-year slumps. We’re here to remind you that the most successful ventures start with little more than a fierce idea and a bit of kitchenware.

Meet Nicholas Mahlalela, whose journey from a solitary pot and a lonely refrigerator to a bustling culinary hotspot is nothing short of a gastronomic fairy tale. His story is a hearty reminder that great things can and absolutely do grow from humble beginnings, proving that determination is the finest ingredient of all. “This adventure kicked off with little more than a pot a refrigerator and a dream to create something extraordinary,” Mahlalela reflects, his eyes sparkling with pride. “Today, I proudly run a thriving establishment at Varsity Corner Kwaluseni, Matsapha, where we serve up a unique culinary experience. We specialise in delicious braai chicken affectionately dubbed ‘chicken dust’ and succulent pork.” Mahlalela’s vision is as savoury as his dishes: To become the go-to destination for quality food and unforgettable dining experiences in the streets of Eswatini. So, as you plan your next move, let Nicholas inspire you to turn your modest beginnings into massive success.

Staying true to his vision, Mahlalela’s mission is crystal clear: Consistently deliver exceptional food and service that not only meets, but exceeds expectations. He’s dedicated to utilising the finest ingredients, crafting each dish like a culinary artist. “My journey has been nothing short of remarkable,” he says, a hint of disbelief in his voice. “What started as a modest venture with limited resources has blossomed into a thriving business serving food to companies, offices and schools daily. The growth is a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our fantastic team.” From mouth-watering grilled chicken to hearty restaurant classics, Galinha Eswatini embraces a diverse menu that caters to every palate. Mahlalela believes in cultivating a culture of positivity, teamwork, and mutual respect within his organisation. He strives to create a supportive and uplifting work environment where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. On leadership, he states: “As the captain of this ship, I believe in leading by example and with integrity. I aim to inspire and motivate my team through my actions, words and deeds. Collaboration, open communication and continuous improvement are my secret ingredients for success.”

Customer satisfaction is not just a priority; it’s their mission. From the quality of the food to the warmth of their hospitality, they are unwaveringly committed to exceeding guests’ expectations at every turn.

Reflecting on his journey with Galinha Eswatini, Mahlalela is filled with gratitude and pride for how far he’s come. “While I may not have envisioned the exact path that led me here, I always believed in the potential of this business to shine. It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey, and I’m thankful for every lesson learnt along the way.” His unwavering passion for food and the desire to create something truly special for his clients fuel his fire. The ambition to become the best eatery in town has compelled him to face every obstacle with unyielding determination.

Currently, Mahlalela is finding inspiration in two enlightening reads: ‘A Hustler’s Bible: The New Testament by Gayton Mckenzie’ and ‘Take Charge by Nyimpini Mabunda’. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Be resilient, adaptable and ready to embrace change. Success rarely comes easy and the road to the top is often strewn with challenges. However, with determination, perseverance and a clear vision, anything is possible. Now, who’s hungry?”

So there you have it! Mahlalela, a culinary wizard, a leader with heart and a true inspiration. Who knew a pot and a refrigerator could lead to such a delightful culinary adventure?
