This is the story of MTN Premier League side Amawele FC’s Director, Thando ‘Mangoza’ Shabangu, who has reportedly stepped down as the club’s director. A source close to the Msunduza-based outfit revealed that Shabangu held meetings with the club elders to inform them of his decision to step down from his position.
The source alleged that Shabangu finally broke the news to the elders and the management committee (MC) on Monday night following another meeting. The source reported that the director stated he could not continue leading the Njabulo ‘Kitaza Jive’ Magongo-captained side, citing financial challenges.
“Amawele are now in search of a new director to lead the club in the upcoming season and beyond after Mangoza resigned,” the source said.
The source referred this publication to the club’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), David ‘Var’ Ndwandwe, for further details on the matter. The lanky PRO confirmed it was true that their director had officially resigned from the club on Monday night after a meeting.
“Yes, it is true our director has officially stepped down and he told us in a meeting which we held yesterday (Monday),” Ndwandwe said.
He said Shabangu cited financial challenges as the reason for his shock exit from the team, which he took over while they were playing in the Mandla Mahewu Mbabane Promotion A Division League.
“I would like to inform our supporters and the Msunduza community that the team is inviting interested people, who can take over from Shabangu, who served the team well,” he said.
On behalf of the elders and supporters of the club, he thanked Shabangu for the role he played in guiding the team to the Premier League and maintaining their status during their maiden appearance in top-flight football.
“We want someone who will help us maintain our status in the Premier League and run the team under its current name, colours and base,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shabangu could not be reached for comment as his phone rang unanswered by the time this report was compiled. The final attempt was made at 6:08pm.
