MBABANE – EFA’s third vice president position could be heading for a major shake-up, with affiliates pushing to end the PLE chairman’s automatic entitlement.
Reports indicate that at least two affiliates have submitted a proposal with a request to change the manner in which EFA third vice president assumes their role.
Dating back to the time of former President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa, the Chairman of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) automatically sat as the third VP. However, impeccable sources have shared to this publication that there is a possible move to now elect for this seat.
It is said the affiliates have proposed that the third VP be elected from the heads of all EFA member bodies instead of allowing only the PLE chairman to enjoy those benefits. The former Senator Mthethwa served as the EFA President from 1993 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2021. This was when now boss Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane first took over before retaining the seat last year. As per article 38 of the 2025 EFA Statutes, the Executive Committee shall consist of twelve (12) members.
“They are formed by one president, three vice presidents; two of whom shall be elected and the chairperson of the Premier League of Eswatini. Adding them are seven members; two of whom shall be elected and the chairpersons of each of the four regional football associations and the women football association. They are completed by an elected woman executive member,” reads the article.
EFA’s current elected vice presidents are Steve Horton and Nkhosingiphile Shongwe, while Polycarp Dlamini earned the seat by his position as Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman. EFA Marketing and Communications Manager Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe opted to not comment on the AGM matters.
“I cannot comment on the AGM matters. They would be deliberated upon on the stated date,” he said.
In South Africa Football Association (SAFA), Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza earned a seat as one of their four vice presidents in the National Executive Committee (NEC) by virtue of occupying the chairmanship position around 2022. Notably, the SAFA is expected to head for elections this year.
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) announced in July that its 2026 Ordinary General Assembly (OGA) will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The assembly, which serves as the association’s highest decision-making body, will bring together EFA Members and key football stakeholders to deliberate on matters relating to the governance and development of football in Eswatini. The venue and commencement time for the meeting will be communicated in due course.
In preparation for the Assembly, EFA also called upon all members to submit any proposals for consideration by the General Assembly no later than Thursday, July 30, 2026. All proposals must be submitted in writing to the EFA Secretariat through the general secretary in accordance with the provisions of the EFA Statutes.
The association further reminded members that delegate representation at the assembly will be governed by the EFA Statutes. A maximum of six (6) delegates will be permitted from each of their member bodies.
