MBABANE – Hub giants Manzini Wanderers have reportedly signed Congolese midfielder Reagan Kangumbu ahead of the upcoming season.
He joins Wanderers as a free agent after having a stint with Moneni Pirates last season. Before joining Sea Robbers, Kangumbu was part of reigning MTN Premier League champions Nsingizini Hotspurs camp. The midfielder had joined around 2021 form now defunct Tambuti.
Kangumbu forms part of ‘Weslians’ first signings with the registration period currently open. The side are said to be engaging in talks with several players which would be officially unveiled once talks are concluded. Players such as Muhle Siyaya, among others, have resumed pre-season. Furthermore, one goalkeeper named Ayanda Maziya was spotted in the club’s colours during a recent training. He is said to be trying his luck with the hopes of getting a contract. Regardless, Wanderers have not issued anything regarding the presence of some players at their training sessions. Meanwhile, in other transfer news, Mbabane Swallows want-away left winger Nhlanhla Ngwenya is reported to have joined Green Mamba, while Swallows Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala is linked with Manzini Sea Birds.
Wanderers Head of Communications Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini confirmed that Kangumbu has indeed joined the side.
“It is true. More signings will be announced once talks are concluded,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, Moneni Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Hlanze confirmed Kangumbu was a free agent.
“His contract with Moneni had expired,” he said.
Late last month saw former Ezulwini United Coach Musa Manyatsi re-joined Wanderers technical bench. Sources indicated that the incoming mentor is already assessing potential players.
Manyatsi has reportedly verbally agreed to a one-year contract on condition that Wanderers play in the elite league. The deal hinges on ‘Weslians’ successfully finalising terms to purchase the elite league status of Red Rhinos. Should they fail to secure top-flight status and drop to the MulaSport National Division, Manyatsi will either return to Ezulwini United or look elsewhere.
Before this development, Manyatsi had been strongly linked with Mbabane Swallows following the resignation of Caleb Ngwenya. Swallows identified Manyatsi as their primary target to succeed Ngwenya after an eighth-place finish last season, while earmarking Mduduzi ‘Sikhalo’ Nxumalo for an assistant role.
Manyatsi spent the previous season at Ezulwini United guiding them away from relegation to finish eleventh place.
