MBABANE – Eswatini international Junior ‘Shisa Gesi’ Magagula has made an early statement at AS Maniema Union, scoring twice in a pre-season victory in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Magagula scored a brace as the DRC powerhouse defeated FC Les Aigles 3-2 at the Centre FIFA in Ignié, with Ekofo getting the other goal.
The performance comes shortly after the former Royal Leopard talisman completed his move to Maniema Union on a three-year deal, securing his first move abroad after more than six years in the MTN Premier League.
Maniema Union had refused to give up on signing the midfielder after an earlier attempt to complete the transfer collapsed over terms. The club later returned with an offer exceeding E200 000 to Ingwemabalabala to secure his services.
His transfer was subsequently confirmed by DRC-born FIFA-accredited players’ agent Alimasi ‘Adebayor’ Saleh, although he declined to discuss the finer financial details of the deal.
Magagula, who reportedly earns a minimum of US$1 500 (over E20 000) per month excluding winning bonuses, has now given Maniema Union an early glimpse of what he can offer in front of goal.
He will get another opportunity to impress when Maniema Union face AS Vita Club on Wednesday, September 2, at the Centre FIFA in Ignié.
The match is scheduled for 9am in Kinshasa and 10am in Kindu.
For Magagula, the brace could prove an important early step in establishing himself at one of the DRC’s prominent clubs ahead of the 2026/27 season.
