MBABANE — Demand for the 2026 Imbube Marathon has reached fever pitch, with race organisers confirming that the popular 10km category is officially sold out.
This is as per an update issued by organisers, the Eswatini National Provident Fund.. Registration figures had already comfortably surpassed the 8 000 mark by last week, setting the stage for a massive turnout.
Athletes, who missed out on the 10km distance are being urged not to panic, as entry slots remain available for the longer routes. Competitors can still lace up for the 21km half marathon at E435 or take on the ultimate challenge of the 42km full marathon for E465. However, organisers warn that remaining places are selling rapidly and will not last long.
All remaining competitors will gather at Somhlolo National Stadium on October 17 to take part in what promises to be an exceptional day of road running. Financial backing for the showpiece has also reached impressive new heights, with the eighth edition securing over E1.5 million in overall sponsorship ahead of next month’s starting gun.
The event continues to attract top-tier international talent across the region. In the 2025 edition, South African ultra-distance veteran Charles Tjiane put on a stellar performance to claim the men’s 42.2km title, whilst Kenyan long-distance star Kiboino Rosina dominated the field to capture the women’s 42.2km crown.
With a substantial prize pot, heavy commercial backing, and thousands of amateur runners converging on Somhlolo National Stadium, the stage is set for another memorable spectacle in October. Runners eager to compete in the half or full marathon are advised to secure their entries immediately before the final allocations close.
