MBABANE – Mater Dolorosa (MDS) High School has officially secured promotion to the Champ of Champs category starting next year in 2027.
This follows the school’s dominant performance at the Eswatini Schools Choral Music competition, where they claimed first position in the Intermediate Category. The event took place on Saturday at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Sports Emporium.
The multi-day competition concluded on Sunday, June 21, 2026, featuring the Champ of Champs category. During this final stage, qualifying schools presented their musical repertoires. For both the Western piece and the national anthem, the participating choirs were accompanied by the Mbabane Chamber Orchestra.
Sithembiso Dlamini, the Chairperson of the Eswatini Schools Choral Music Association (ESCMA), addressed attendees regarding the organisation of this year’s event. Dlamini disclosed that the competition faced operational challenges that initially threatened its execution. He extended acknowledgement to the entities that provided financial and logistical support to ensure the event proceeded.
Among the primary contributors was the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC), which funded the rental fees for the venues and provided the sound engineering system. Additionally, financial services firm Old Mutual contributed a sum of E50 000 directly towards the competition’s budget.
