Location: Malolotja

Date: Sunday, September 14, 2025

The National History Society will host its monthly outing at Malolotja Nature Reserve on Sunday, September 14.

This date has been chosen because of the public holiday and national events on the first weekend of the month. The day will begin with a drive along Mhlangamphepha Falls through the reserve.

This scenic journey takes about 90 minutes and requires a low-range gear (4×4) vehicle. The WhatsApp group is already coordinating who is coming and whether extra seats are available.

Hike or relax by the river?

The choice is yours. You can hike to the top of the mountain or spend the day by the river, swimming, picnicking and soaking up the scenery.

Meeting points:

Theatre Club at 7:30am for a 7:45am departure

Main gate at Malolotja at 8:15am

Entrance fees are payable at the gate: E50 for locals or E70 for international visitors. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes each way.

What to bring:

Plenty of water (at least 1.5 litres), a hat and sun protection, snacks, hiking poles, plus a gazebo or other shade if you plan to picnic.

Please note, no dogs are allowed in the nature reserve.

Visitors are welcome. A guest fee of E40 is charged for non-members as a contribution to conservation in Eswatini.
