Fitness is often associated with discipline and strict routines, but for Blessing Simelane, the journey started with simple home workouts and a desire to feel healthier both physically and mentally. From Pilates sessions in her room to intense volleyball training on campus, she has turned healthy living into a lifestyle that keeps her energised and focused every day. Her fitness journey officially took shape in October 2025 when she joined the volleyball team at the University of Eswatini.

Before that, she mainly exercised from home through skipping rope and pilates. Joining the team helped her stay consistent as she trained under Coach Sandile Dlamini. “When you love what you do, it becomes easier to stay motivated and keep going,” she shared.

What motivates her most is the positive impact exercise has on both her body and mind. She says training leaves her feeling refreshed, with a clearer mind and better concentration when working on assignments and daily responsibilities. For her, fitness is not only about appearance, but also about protecting her mental well-being.

Her workout routine includes running, stretching, abdominal exercises and volleyball-specific drills that help improve strength, endurance and flexibility. Although she does not follow a strict diet plan, she believes healthy habits matter. Every morning starts with warm water and honey, while staying hydrated throughout the day remains one of her priorities. “Drink enough water and aim for around two litres a day,” she advised. Simelane also believes healthy living also improves confidence and self-discipline. She says staying active has taught her the importance of consistency and balancing different responsibilities.

Even on busy days, she tries to make time for movement because it helps her feel productive and positive. She also encourages people to take small steps towards healthier living instead of trying to change everything at once.  According to her, self-love and consistency are important parts of the journey. “Do it for yourself, not to impress anyone else,’’ said the 26-year-old Simelane.
