MBABANE – Despite a spirited performance by Eswatini’s Beach Volleyball teams, the males were unable to go beyond the quarter-finals.
This was during the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour, where seven countries were represented. These were Eswatini, hosts South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
A total of 19 teams from the male category and 12 from the women’s division competed in Cape Town on the sandy courts from the past Saturday and concluded on Sunday.
In the men’s category, Sanele Mndzebele and Mlamuli Simelane finished the competition in fifth place, while it is worth noting that the duo occupied number one in the group stages.
They lost to Botswana and South Africa. The ladies are still a work in progress, at least according to the Eswatini National Volleyball Association (ENVA) President, Eric Gama.
The local female duo was last, finishing 12th, while Namibia won the category and qualified for the Elite 24 Qualification Tournament, which started yesterday.
Meanwhile, the final leg of the CAVB VI Beach Volleyball Tour is scheduled for Maputo from November 6-10, 2025, with the sixth being the arrival date.
Gama expressed that they represented the country with pride. As an association, they are convinced to have done enough to fulfil their mandate.
