Our sub-section always brings you the freshest rides on our local roads and we did not compromise on our offering because this week, My Car and I features Siphosethu Mdluli from Siphocosini just outside Mbabane. He drives a black beast that turns heads to its direction when it passes by. Siphosethu proudly owns one of the modern and praised cars from the VW family, the VW Polo GTI 6C.
He has not yet named his car, but for now he calls it the 6C because he believes that the name holds weight on the streets, especially on GTI fans since it is almost like a badge of honour, well built, quick and respected. “Even without a nickname, the model, grill and LED daytime running lights speak for themselves,” said Siphosethu.
Inasmuch as the car is still fairly fresh to him, Siphosethu got his beat back in February this year. The car has great features and he loves how it is a pocket rocket.
“The 6C is very quick especially for its size and the way it responds when I put the pedal to the medal. I always look forward to getting behind the wheel because when I accelerate it, the car responds and that really melts my heart and it is has become very addictive,” shared Siphosethu.
The 6C is has a unique feature that makes it even better, he mentions that it does not sacrifice on practicality; it is quite efficient on fuel when driven right. However, he shared that he always fails to drive it the right way and he loves the fact that when he wants to have fun on the road it responds nicely.
Siphosethu shares that this beast of a car runs on a 1.8 litre turbocharged engine, the ‘sweet spot’. It replaced the 1.4 twin charged engine from the Polo GTI 6R, which cannot match the raw feel and its reliability.
“The 1.8 just responds, even with the lightest press on the accelerator. The 6C feels like a proper hot hatch, quick responsive and agile, without being overpowered, you still get those DSG pops, the satisfying turbo surge and just enough chaos to make every drive exciting,” shared Siphosethu.
