Transforming her life through discipline and prioritising holistic health to overcome challenges and inspire others towards wellness, Phindile Mgabhi, also known as PHINDI.M Eyamabhoza, started her fitness journey in 2012. Mgabhi’s path was inspired by her experiences during difficult times, which pushed her to take care of her health, both physically and mentally.

“Growing up, I never had health issues, but I was big, wearing size 46, now I am 34. One thing that helped me survive that situation was gym, and ensuring that I eat healthy and balanced meal. I don’t think I would be where I am today if I was not exercising and eating clean. Also, we as females, face too many challenges and one needs that one coping mechanism, and gym is my coping mechanism,” she shares. Regarding the specific exercises she performs and how they benefit her, Mgabhi explains that she focuses on cardio and functional movements, including aerobics and running twice a week.

These help her manage weight and stress. She also incorporates strength and weights training to build muscle and achieve her desired physique.

“Another benefit of strength training is that it keeps the body strong during all the cardio and functional training due to the muscle strength,” she notes.

When it comes to nutrition, Mgabhi does not follow a restrictive diet but focuses on whole foods. “I don’t really have a diet, but I can share that I eat a lot of vegetables, white meat, fish, drink plenty of water and I love my fruits. I don’t include refined starch in my grocery list, as I believe that I get enough starch from my vegetables and fruits. Yes, I do indulge in takeaways from time to time.”

Her secret to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, despite working as a firefighter, running her own club, managing family life and studying, is a mixture of discipline and support.

“There are days when one feels like not going to the gym, but because I have people who love me on my side, it becomes easier. My family and team members always assist and support me. I’ll forever be grateful to them.

You need to be disciplined no matter how hard it gets and stay consistent always,” she shares.

Were you able to guess Mgabhi’s age? She’s 38 years old.
