HLUThI – Police have launched an investigation following an armed robbery at Our Lady of Sorrows Mission, where a 50-year-old priest was bound by the perpetrators.
According to sources, the victim serves as a father at the mission church.
Police reported the incident unfolded in the evening of July 18, 2026, at approximately 6:30pm, when father was making his way back to his residence after conducting services at the church.
While returning home, the father is reported to have been suddenly approached and confronted by two unidentified men. “The assailants forcibly restrained and tied up the priest before gaining entry into his house.
Once inside the residence, the robbers carried ransacked the house and stole electronic devices comprising two mobile phones and two laptop computers,” narrated a source. In addition to the electronics, estimated at a combined value of E19 200, the intruders stole cash in multiple currencies – US$150 (approximately E2 472.66), 155 Euros (approximately E2 920.67) and E3 800 before fleeing the scene. Hluthi police confirmed that an active investigation into the armed robbery is underway. Law enforcement authorities are appealing to members of the public who may possess information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen property to assist the investigation.
